If you have an older Savant OS, be ready to spend even more money to upgrade your system so you can use the latest hardware and software functionality. The system is simple to use, but if you want custom, detailed settings and access, it might not be for you.įor me to be able to use the Savant Pro Remote X2, I had to upgrade my host software to Savant 9.3.2. This is something you must think about when you decide to opt for Savant. When compared to the larger remote controls from Control4 or Crestron, it was clear I would be forgoing interface functionality for a more minimalistic hardware design I would have to use my tablet or phone to access more in-depth settings and features of the system. Unlike my phone, remotes provide dedicated buttons and greater ease of use. Of all those options, I personally prefer using a remote control to access the system. With Savant, you have the option to use your own tablet or phone to operate Savant software, or one of several Savant devices like the Savant Touch, wall keypads, or remote controls - you can even use Google Assistant or Amazon’s Alexa for controlling basic scenes. I chose to go with Savant for my home because I was naturally drawn to the beauty and simplicity of its user interface, and I love the elegant design of the hardware. If you have decided to make the jump to a professional, integrated smart home system, I have found that there are really only three major brands to consider: Control4, which has the most third-party partners in the space Crestron, the old favorite of installers, which has proven to be very reliable, but has fewer cutting-edge third-party partners and the new favorite, Savant, which is rapidly gaining popularity among installers thanks to an emphasis on having a beautiful interface and hardware design, along with a growing list of third-party partners in the space.Ī couple of years ago, we decided to test two of these systems in a couple of Digital Trends “test homes,” which included my own personal home (how convenient, I know). One remote to control them all, and everyone can control it.Give us a call at 91 to learn how you can get your hands on one of the sleekest remotes available. The new remote launches in January 2016, just in time for the Super Bowl. Over time, the new Savant platform will incorporate other devices, but only the best in breed at controlling climate, shades, and other devices. The plug-in adapter lets you turn anything plugged into it on or off using the Savant System. The system can also transform your lamps into smart ones with an included Lamp Controller. The remote communicates to the base via Bluetooth, which in turn communicates with the Savant Host via Wi-Fi. The remote recharges via its base which also serves as an infrared blaster. The system functions effortlessly with only a few components. Pick up the remote, say “ESPN” and it will automatically turn on the TV, switch the input, and go to the channel. This feature alone was 18 months in the making and Savant wanted to ensure it was a hit. Press the microphone button speak a phrase such as “movie night” and the lights, music, and TV adjust to a pre-set scene users create via the mobile app. When lifted, the remote automatically wakes up, thanks to built-in sensors. The first screen lists favorite channels, the second lists components such as Apple TV, Sonos or Xbox, complete with logos, and the third screen lists “scenes” that have been set-up using the mobile app. The touchscreen allows users to swipe left and right over three main pages. The top half of the remote flaunts a color touchscreen providing users one-tap access to their favorite network and cable-TV stations, Sonos, Roku, Apple TV, game console, and even lamps. The remote contains all the standard buttons one would expect to find play, pause, fast forward, and rewind, but with a high-definition display. Think of it as a sleek universal remote for controlling the ever-growing number of connected smart home gadgets, with a focus on entertainment. Plus the new system features a slick, well-constructed remote control. In order to appeal to more people, Savant has introduced a lower-cost system that emphasizes smart design and gives homeowners the ability to h ook up a living room and another area of the house.
